This new online tool helps architects and designers assess visual contrast and make more informed colour selections when it comes to stair nosings and flooring accessories.
Available free, the easy-to-use tool allows users to compare Light Reflectance Values (LRVs) between selected surfaces and quickly see whether the difference meets the relevant requirements referenced in Approved Document M (Volume 2) and BS 8300-2:2018.
For architects and designers, assessing visual contrast can be an important part of creating accessible environments. Yet checking LRV values across multiple product and colour selections can be time-consuming and complicated.
Quantum’s new tool is intended to simplify that process.
Users can enter or select the relevant products and colours, with the tool calculating the difference between their LRV values and presenting the result in a clear report. The report also provides a product specification schedule, giving specifiers a straightforward record of the selections used in the assessment.
For example, the tool can assess the contrast between a staircase and stair nosing, showing the LRV of each surface, the difference between them and the applicable requirement.
Making compliance considerations simpler
The launch reflects Quantum Flooring Accessories focus on supporting architects and designers beyond simply supplying flooring products.
“We wanted to make that process as straightforward as possible. The LRV Room Tool gives architects and designers an easy way to compare their selections, understand the LRV difference and generate a useful report as part of their design and specification process.” Tim Hayes, Specification & Marketing Manager
From colour selection to specification
Rather than relying on separate calculations or manually checking individual LRV values, the LRV Room Tool brings the assessment into one simple online process.
The resulting report records the comparison, LRV values, calculated difference and relevant requirement, alongside the products selected. This can provide architects and designers with a useful reference as a project progresses from initial colour selection through to specification.
Quantum Flooring Accessories sees the tool as another way of helping specifiers make confident, informed decisions while keeping accessibility considerations front of mind.
