The Project

A new Ninja Warrior UK Adventure Park was being built in Chelmsford. This huge venue was being converted from three commercial units. It would be able to accommodate over 170 visitors at once, with a range of obstacle courses similar to those seen on the Ninja Warrior TV show.

For such a big site with so many people passing through each day, safety for staff and visitors would be of paramount importance. Tricas Flooring were employed as Flooring Contractors for the project, part of which would be fitting Stair Nosings on a few different staircases with a range of step types and floorcovering materials.

The Approach

Tricas Flooring approached Quantum Flooring to discuss the Stair Nosings which would be needed for the Ninja Warrior venue. There were three types of staircase, which would each require a different profile option. Two of these would have resilient floorcoverings, but with either flat fronted or rake back steps. The third type would have no floorcovering.

Quantum had the ideal Stair Nosings for the project: ZF1 for flat fronted steps with resilient floorcovering; ZR1 for rake back steps with resilient floorcovering; and ZF125R for flat fronted steps with no floorcovering. The ZF125R profile has a ramped back, to reduce the chance of trips and falls on the steps. Poppy coloured tread material was used with all of the Stair Nosings, to match the Ninja Warrior brand colours.

All of Quantum’s tread material has a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of over 36 in both wet and dry conditions. This means that the treads met all requirements for slip resistance in Building Regulations, British Standards, and Equality Act documents, so were perfect for the project.

The Outcome

Quantum’s ZF1, ZR1, and ZF125R Stair Nosings look great in the new attraction. The poppy tread material ensures that the Ninja Warrior branding is consistent throughout the building. Meanwhile, each of the profiles fit perfectly on the different staircases, and this along with the slip resistant tread material helps to minimise slips, trips and falls.

Ninja Warrior Chelmsford opened in August 2023. Tricas Flooring did fantastic work on the project, and the venue is a roaring success. Quantum’s Stair Nosings are helping to keep the many visitors to the adventure park safe from injury.
