Quantum Flooring Accessories supports the restoration of a 201-year-old Grade II listed landmark. Located in the heart of Buile Hill Park and surrounded by landscaped gardens, the 201-year-old Buile Hill Hall Mansion has long been one of Salford’s most recognisable heritage buildings. Now fully restored as a venue for weddings, events, and community functions, the project required carefully selected stair nosings that would complement the historic character of the Grade II listed interior while meeting modern performance and safety standards.

Quantum Flooring Accessories were specified from the outset, supplying bespoke stair nosings and accessories that aligned with both the aesthetic and regulatory needs of the refurbishment.

Challenge

As with many heritage refurbishments, maintaining the architectural integrity of the building was critical. The main staircase required products that blended seamlessly with the period design, while also providing durability and slip resistance for high footfall.

A specific challenge was the requirement for two fully curved stair nosings on the lower steps. These curves were complex and needed to follow the original form of the staircase precisely. With tight project timelines in place ahead of the building’s reopening, the Quantum manufacturing team produced the custom curved stair nosings within a matter of days, ensuring they could be anodised and delivered rapidly.

Solution

Two bespoke anodised curved stair nosings – manufactured to match the staircase’s original geometry and over 200 metres of straight stair nosings.

Classic Bronze was chosen to complement the interior design scheme and maintain visual continuity with the building’s heritage features, while also offering a finish compliant with building regulations.

The staircase was completed with high-quality carpet, with Quantum’s nosings and grippers ensuring a neat, safe, and durable installation.

Outcome

The final installation enhances both the appearance and functionality of the restored staircase. The HB1 Rustic nosings provide a subtle, elegant transition between the period architecture and the newly installed carpet, while the precision-manufactured curved nosings ensure a perfect fit on the lower steps.

Photographs included in the case study were taken the day before the building was officially handed over and reopened to the public.
