As part of a wider refurbishment programme at Forest School, the Drama Theatre underwent a significant upgrade to enhance both usability and safety. The project included updating the flooring and staircase access areas used by students, staff, and visitors. Prime Flooring Essex was contracted to manage the flooring installation, selecting Quantum Flooring Accessories to supply high-performance stair nosings.
The theatre is a key facility within the school, regularly hosting performances, assemblies, and events. As such, the refurbishment needed to not only address safety compliance but also align with the school’s commitment to providing a professional and welcoming environment for both students and guests. The flooring specification had to withstand high footfall while maintaining a clean, contemporary aesthetic suitable for a performing arts space.
Challenge
The theatre’s original stair finishes did not meet current health and safety standards, particularly in terms of slip resistance on the access stairs to seating areas. Given the frequent use of the space by students and the public, it was critical to install a solution that would:

Solution
To meet these requirements, Quantum’s QR-SF125R stair nosing in Polar Grey was chosen. Supplied undrilled, and fitted with Q-Fix only this allowed on-site flexibility during installation as fitting times were over 60% quicker than the drilled and plugged method.
