Quantum Flooring stair nosings can be installed using several fixing methods, depending on the profile and application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This guide explains how to fit Quantum Flooring stair nosings using:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Standard screw and plug fixing<\/li>\n<li>Secret fixing<\/li>\n<li>Q-FIX adhesive-only fixing<\/li>\n<li>Ecoglo tread material<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Always check the specific stair nosing and installation requirements before starting work.<\/p>\n<h2>Before You Start<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Before fitting the stair nosing, check the measurements of each step against the supplied, cut stair nosing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Trim the stair nosing if required and prepare the step edge and tread surfaces. Surfaces must be <strong>sound, clean, smooth and free from debris, contaminants and loose materials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Where applicable, fit the floorcovering to the stair risers before installing the stair nosings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For stone or concrete steps, use the stair nosing as a template to mark the screw positions on each tread, then drill and plug the screw holes.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Standard Stair Nosing Installation \u2013 Screw &amp; Plug Fixing<\/h1>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The standard fixing method uses adhesive together with screws and plugs.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1 \u2013 Check and prepare the stair<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Check the dimensions of the step against the supplied stair nosing. holes<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For stone or concrete steps, use the stair nosing as a template and mark the screw locations on the tread.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Drill and plug the screw holes ready for fixing.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3 \u2013 Apply adhesive<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Apply a suitable cartridge adhesive to the underside of the stair nosing and the tread in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer&#8217;s instructions.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4 \u2013 Position and screw the stair nosing<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Starting with the first stair nosing on the <strong>top step<\/strong>, press the nosing down into position and screw it securely into place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>1-inch No. 6 screws are recommended.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Once fixed, fill the drill holes with plugs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Continue down the staircase, repeating the adhesive and fixing procedure for each step.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Once the nosings have been installed, fit the floorcovering to the stair treads.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Secret Fixing Stair Nosing Installation<\/h1>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Secret fixing provides a drill-and-no-plug installation method.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Follow Steps 1 to 4 above, with the secret fixing stair nosing system, then continue as follows.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 5 \u2013 Prepare the tread channel<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Trim the tread material to the required length to suit the width of the stair nosing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Working <strong>one step at a time from the top of the staircase downwards<\/strong>, remove the release paper from the adhesive in the channel or channels.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 6 \u2013 Fit the tread material<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Place the tread material into the channel, starting at one end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Carefully roll the material into the channel to expel air and ensure good contact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Trim the end of the tread material if necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> Use a hand roller to apply adequate pressure and ensure that the bond between the adhesive tape and tread material is secure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Quantum Profile Systems Ltd does not endorse the use of adhesive tape from other manufacturers for Quantum stair nosing infill treads.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Fitting Ecoglo Tread Material<\/h1>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Quantum stair nosings can also be fitted with Ecoglo tread material using the secret fixing system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Follow Steps 1 to 4 of the secret fixing installation procedure first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">There are two drilling options for preparing the channel:<\/p>\n<h3>Drilling Option C.1<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Peel the release paper from the adhesive tape in the channel.<\/p>\n<h3>Drilling Option C.2<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Apply <strong>one bead of Q-FIX adhesive into the middle of the channel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Fit the Ecoglo tread strip<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Offer the Ecoglo tread strip into the channel, starting at one end and keeping the strip flat as it is installed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Do not bend the ends of the strip upwards.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Allow approximately <strong>24 hours for the adhesive to cure before allowing access to the staircase.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Q-FIX Adhesive-Only Stair Nosing Installation<\/h1>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Quantum Q-FIX adhesive can be used as an adhesive-only fixing method for Quantum Flooring stair nosings.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1 \u2013 Check and prepare the step<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Check the step dimensions against the supplied, cut stair nosing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Trim the nosing if required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Ensure that the step is <strong>sound, clean and free from contaminants and loose materials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2 \u2013 Apply Q-FIX adhesive<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Apply Q-FIX adhesive to the underside of the stair nosing profile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Apply a <strong>5 mm wide bead<\/strong> beginning <strong>5 mm in from the outer edge<\/strong> of the profile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Apply a second 5 mm bead approximately down the middle of the profile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For a <strong>single-channel profile<\/strong>, two adhesive beads are sufficient.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For a <strong>double-channel profile<\/strong>, apply a further bead of adhesive <strong>10 mm from the inside edge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3 \u2013 Position the stair nosing<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Turn the stair nosing over and place the leading edge slightly over the edge of the step.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">At the same time, slide the nosing down and into its final position.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This movement distributes the adhesive from the front to the back as the profile is installed.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4 \u2013 Allow the adhesive to cure<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Allow <strong>1 hour after fixing before opening the area to traffic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The contractor must check that the bond is secure before opening the staircase to traffic.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Stair Nosing Installation Checklist<\/h1>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Before completing the installation, check that:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>The stair nosing has been measured against the step and trimmed where necessary.<\/li>\n<li>The step surface is sound, clean and free from debris, contaminants and loose materials.<\/li>\n<li>Riser floorcovering has been fitted where applicable.<\/li>\n<li>Screw holes have been correctly marked, drilled and plugged where required.<\/li>\n<li>The correct adhesive has been applied in accordance with the manufacturer&#8217;s instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Stair nosings have been installed starting from the top of the staircase.<\/li>\n<li>Screws and plugs have been securely fitted where the standard fixing method is being used.<\/li>\n<li>Tread material has been correctly trimmed and fitted into the nosing channel.<\/li>\n<li>A hand roller has been used to apply adequate pressure to adhesive-backed tread material.<\/li>\n<li>Ecoglo strips remain flat and their ends have not been bent upwards.<\/li>\n<li>Required adhesive curing times have been observed before allowing traffic onto the staircase.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Which Stair Nosing Fixing Method Should I Use?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Quantum Flooring stair nosings can be installed using different fixing methods depending on the stair nosing and application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Screw and plug fixing<\/strong> uses adhesive together with mechanical screw fixing and plugs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Secret fixing<\/strong> provides a drill-and-no-plug fixing method, with the tread material installed into the stair nosing channel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Q-FIX adhesive-only fixing<\/strong> uses Q-FIX adhesive to secure the stair nosing without screws and plugs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Always follow the fitting requirements applicable to the particular Quantum stair nosing being installed.<\/p>\n<h2>Q-FIX Stair Nosing Adhesive<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Q-FIX is described by Quantum Flooring as a single solution for fitting Quantum Flooring Accessories stair nosings. It is suitable for use with Quantum stair nosings and is intended to provide an alternative to screw-and-plug fixing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The manufacturer states that 10-year bond and stair nosing guarantees are available and that Q-FIX can eliminate the need for screws and plugs.<\/p>\n<h3>Q-FIX Safety Information<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Q-FIX contains <strong>vinyltrimethoxysilane<\/strong> and may cause an allergic skin reaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection and face protection when using the product.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If the product gets on skin or hair, remove contaminated clothing immediately and rinse the skin with water or shower.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If the product gets into the eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes.
