Quantum Matting creates a safe and clean entrance at the Lakeview Court Care Home in South East London

The Problem

Built in 2010 Lakeview Court is a housing development of 58 extra care single and two bedroomed flats for the elderly. It is a place where elderly people can live together and retain their independence. Knowing all the time that if help is needed the qualified on-site care staff are on hand for any emergency. It is independence with peace of mind!

Naturally, with such residents leaving and entering the complex all day and every day, health and safety considerations are paramount. A clean environment on entering the building is crucial, since transferred soil and dirt can easily become a slip hazard if not dealt with properly.

Recently the original matting in the main lobby had deteriorated so much that it was no longer effective. Grit, dirt and moisture carried in by feet and wheel chair traffic was making the internal floorcoverings dangerous – not to mention dirty!

The Requirement

The Lakeview Court managing company asked J Bullman Flooring of Newham to assess the requirement. They established that due to the nature of the site, installation access time was limited, as elderly and infirm residents were constantly coming and going through this main entrance. To help meet health and safety standards J Bullman established that, a quality primary entrance matting that would accept wheelchair and caster trolley traffic, was required. Not only this, it would also have to be a matting system that could be delivered on time and installed with the minimum of inconvenience.

The Solution

J Bullman Flooring called for the free QSMS measure service. A Quantum Matting surveyor was on site within 24 hours. The 8.6 sq. m area was measured-up during working hours. The Quantum 12 mm Grid Matting system (with warm black inserts) was recommended. This was ordered, delivered on time, and coordinated with the J Bullman Flooring installation team so that disruption to the residents was kept to an absolute minimum during the installation process. The Quantum Matting ‘aid and assist’ service also meant a matting specialist was present on the day to help with any fitting questions.

The Conclusion

The Lakeview Court Extra Care Housing complex got an entrance matting installed that was ‘fit for purpose’. Namely it was safe, reduced the risk of a slip, trip or fall, and helped prevent the ingress of moisture and dirt into the building It now protects the LVT vinyl flooring of the main building from damage and helps keep the floor surface used by residents as safe as possible.
