Quantum Flooring Solutions supplies the Stair Nosings for prestigious suite of offices in Elgin.

The Problem

Way up north on the shores of the Moray Firth, the old Cathedral City of Elgin is part of an expanding area of business in Scotland. To cope with the increasing demand for office space, the town centre located Caledonian House has undergone a high spec refurbishment. The outcome being a suite of prestigious offices in the new Caledonian House Business Centre.

However, the end result was not achieved without the usual difficulties associated with such a project; planning, construction, fitting out and floor laying all had to be coordinated. The refurbishment programme went through several delays, such that when it came to the fitting of the floorcoverings and accessories, time was short. There were stairs needing nearly 100m of stair nosings to be supplied and fitted, not to mention a ‘hockey stick’ curve to be fitted to a bottom step.

The Requirement

The developers of the business centre asked a local flooring contractor, The Floor Studio, to undertake their flooring work. Having an established relationship with Quantum Flooring Solutions, based on good service over a number of years, Stuart Stenhouse from The Floor Studio immediately called the local Quantum Area Sales Manager, Rob Horner.

The Solution

Rob responded promptly with a site visit which established what was needed.

Flights of stairs with bull nosed steps needed measuring along with a template of the large curved step. Using the Quantum Flooring Solutions’ digital measuring service QSMS, Rob was able to take accurate measurements of each step there and then. After transferring the data electronically to head office, copies of the stair nosing sizes required were sent to the contractor and his distributor within 24 hours. Rob recommended the heavy duty HB1 stair nosings for the bull nose step profiles; the client chose a black tread material to give a clear definition to the steps on the stairs fitted with a light-coloured carpet.

The Conclusion

With all the information to hand, Stuart was able to confirm his stair nosing order requirement with his local distributor and the profiles were delivered to the project site cut to size, numbered by step and ready to fit.
